REALLY GREEN SMART'S TOP GARDENING TIPS FOR APRIL

22 March 2017 by Really Green Smart Garden Company

Spring is finally here, warmer weather, lighter nights and, of course, the inevitable April showers! But don’t let that dampen your spirits as there is lots to look forward to in your garden during the spring and summer months. Flowering trees and shrubs start to bloom, daffodils appear and hopefully some sunshine too! April is the time to turn your attention to cutting the grass, dealing with the weeds and sowing outdoors (however, just keep an eye on frosts and protect plants such as Azealia).

Here are our top gardening tips that will help you keep your garden looking Really Green and Smart all year round.

  • Protect fruit blossom and plants such Azealia from frosts
  • Increase the water given to houseplants
  • Begin to clear weeds to keep them under control
  • Start to cut the grass if you have not done so already
  • Sow herbs, wild flower seed and hardy annuals outdoors
  • Divide waterlilies
  • Feed shrubs and roses
  • Repair any bare patches on your lawn
  • Sow a new lawn if necessary
  • Tie in rambling and climbing roses
  • Feed large aquatic plants by inserting special aquatic slow-release fertiliser tablets well below soil level around the base of the plant.
  • Now is the time to begin planning your time garden building, these are best erected when the weather is dry so that the timber can be treated to protect from rot.
