REALLY GREEN SMART'S TOP GARDENING TIPS FOR JULY

30 June 2016 by Really Green Smart Garden Company

July is usually one of the hottest months of the year and a good time to try out that new patio set you have had sitting in your garage or shed since last year and enjoy some of that warm sunshine and, of course, your garden.

Here are some top tips to help you keep your garden looking Really Green and Smart all summer long:

1. Keep plants looking good by dead-heading to enjoy a longer display of flowers.

2. Keep the plants well watered, use the water in your water butts wherever possible – be water-wise.

3. Ensure all plant and shrub canes have rubber protectors on the end – we don’t want anyone poking their eyes out!

4. Hoe off weeds, which thrive in the dry warm weather.

5. Check clematis for any signs of wilting.

6. Remember to arrange for someone to water your plants if you are going away on holiday.

7. Give your lawn a fast-acting summer feed, especially if you did not do this during the spring.

8. Pick your courgettes before they grow into marrows.

9. Harvest apricots, peaches and nectarines.

10. Top up your ponds and water features if needs be. Putting a spray attachment on the end of your hose will help aerate the water which is good for any fish you may have. Remove dead foliage and blooms from waterlilies and other aquatic plants. Cut back plants that may be getting out of hand. Remove any floating weeds.

If all this sounds too much work to do on a hot, sunny day and you need help, then give us a call and we will send the boys round!

Enjoy the summer, enjoy your garden.
