REALLY GREEN SMART'S TOP GARDENING TIPS FOR OCTOBER

19 September 2016 by Really Green Smart Garden Company

Well… we had some very warm days during September and some wild storms to boot, but, alas, the autumn is now definitely approaching and with it the cooler temperatures. Autumn is a lovely time of year as the trees change colour. Sometimes it may seem a pointless exercise trying to rake the leaves up when the wind is blowing, but keeping the leaves off the grass will help reduce moss growth.

Here are some top gardening tips to help you keep your garden looking Really Green and Smart all year round.

  • Repair tired looking lawns or create new grass areas by laying turf
  • Plant out spring cabbages
  • Now is the time to think about adding autumn dressing to your lawn to keep it in tip top condition over the colder months ahead
  • Divide any herbaceous perennials you may have in the garden.
  • If you have climbing roses in your garden, now is a good time to prune them.
  • If you have made a start on collecting seeds, now is the time to finish that job so they are ready to sow next year.
  • Cut back any perennials you may have in your garden that have died down.
  • Autumn brings frosts! Remember to move any tender or aquatic plants into your greenhouse or conservatory to protect them.
  • If like us you love Rhubarb pie, then now is the time to divide the more established rhubarb you may have in your garden to create new plants.
  • As the weather will now begin to cool, reduce the amount of watering.
  • This may be your last chance to mow your lawns and trim your hedges (depending on where you live)
  • If you love growing fruit in your garden, then now is the time to harvest your apples, pears and grapes

If this all sounds like too much for you, then call us and we will be happy to help keep your garden and grounds in great shape all year round.

Love life and enjoy your garden!
